FREQUENCY INVERTERS AND STATIC STARTERS FOR THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTORS

During the last years the industry used almost exclusively continuos induction motors, with important advantages but with high purchase and maintenance cost.

The Frequency Inverter changes at will the speed of an induction motor, increasing its efficiency and saving in power consumption. Side by to the Frequency Inverter, the demand has increased enormously for devices devoted to start the motors: the Static Starters which are replacing the classic star-delta starters. The Frequency Inverter changes the voltage and the frequency applied to the motor while the Static Starters only change the voltage.

Three technologies are used for the Frequency Inverters: Scalar type (with the voltage/frequency ratio), Vector type (vectorally controlling the flux to the motor) and DTC (Direct Torque Control, which are the evolution of the Vector types).

SERIES CONTROLSTART
To prevent jerking of the motor and to assure a completely gradual start-up, the CONTROLSTART uses the voltage control method, assessing the passage through zero of the current. In this way, minor torque variations, inducing current variations, will no affect the voltage applied to the motor, thereby achieving a very smooth, gradual start-up.
